By the end of 2013, ICANN, the governing body of the domain name system plans to introduce more than 1000 new generic top level domain names (gTLDs) to the internet space. So far more than 1900 applications for new gTLDs have been filed by several website registry companies, amongst them applications for gTLDs such as .pizza, .taxi, .music, .vacation, etc… What does this explosion of new gTLDs mean for trademark owners?
